How I Can Help

I believe that every instrument that enters my workshop carries its own history and deserves its own special care. Because I take great pride in providing a truly personalised service, I work strictly by appointment. This ensures that when you arrive, my time is dedicated solely to you and your instrument.

Together, we will sit down and look at your instrument to talk through the different options. I want you to feel comfortable and in control of every decision, especially when it comes to your budget. We will look closely at what is needed and discuss the repair options and their costs together.

Once we have found the best path forward, you can choose exactly which work you would like to proceed with. My goal is for you to leave your instrument in my hands with total peace of mind, knowing it is in good care.

About

The Art of the Bench

My journey into the world of instrument repair began not in a studio, but growing up on a farm. My early years were spent between two worlds: passing tools to my father as he worked in the shed on heavy machinery, and immersed in arts and crafts with my mother in the home. It was there I first learned to respect both the language of tools and the delicate precision of handiwork.

That foundation, combined with a lifelong dedication to music—from my first piano scales in primary school to completing a Bachelor of Music on the saxophone—eventually led me to my true calling: the craft of the technician.

A Commitment to the Craft

My foundation in this trade began in the 1990s, where I trained in a leading professional woodwind workshop in Brisbane. Since those early days, I have remained a perpetual student of the craft. My expertise is a blend of formal education, international training and modern innovation. I am a certified Straubinger technician and a member of NAPBIRT, and have traveled as far as the United States to study brass repair and lathe work.

In my workshop, traditional hand-skills meet modern technology. By integrating jewelry-making techniques for fine metalwork with 3D printing and laser cutting, I am able to offer specialised keywork modifications. I take particular pride in customising instruments for players with injuries or disabilities, ensuring that the pleasure of playing remains accessible to everyone.

A Partnership Built on Trust

My business has grown primarily through word-of-mouth, which I consider the highest compliment. I view every appointment as an opportunity for education and communication. I want you to leave not just with a restored instrument, but with a deeper understanding of your instrument and how to care for it.

My greatest reward is the moment you return to collect your instrument and find that the ease of play has been restored.

A Philosophy of Ease and Excellence

I believe that making music should be an act of joy, not a physical struggle. Too often, a student’s frustration or a professional’s fatigue isn't always a reflection of their technique, but a sign that their instrument is fighting against them. My motivation is simple: to ensure your instrument functions so seamlessly and effortlessly that it disappears, leaving only the music.

A Sanctuary for Your Instrument

I work from a quiet, meticulously maintained home-based workshop—a dedicated space filled with specialised tooling where I can focus entirely on the task at hand. Because I do not buy or sell instruments, my advice is purely objective. You can have absolute confidence that my recommendations are based solely on what is best for you and your instrument.
